The Music Lovers

The Music Lovers

Even among various spaces, when a particular space harbors someone's thoughts and feelings, it manifests itself like a portrait. The master of the long-established JAZZ LIVE BAR "STAR EYES," which quietly stands in Nagoya's Kakuozan and opened in 1982, says this:

"I don't force my preferences on anyone. That's why the performing musicians are diverse. Listeners are free to interpret jazz as they like. Even when I play records, I don't follow any sequence. It's fine if customers feel comfortable dropping by. It makes me happy when even famous people tell me, 'I want to come back here and play again.'"

The master's words suggest that the place has been shaped by the "free interpretation and memories of the people who love the music housed there." In this project, we view such a "space imbued with specific thoughts and time" as a "portrait with an expression," capturing the moment when the master's unwavering belief and the "individuality" of "The Music Lovers" who gather there intersect, through the light, shadow, and texture that the space creates.
